Oracle, IBM Hold Hands on Java
Oracle and IBM, usually the bitter rivals, decided to collaborate on OpenJDK, which has served as the principal reference implementation of open source Java. The two companies will make the OpenJDK community the primary location for open source Java SE development. Collaboration between the two vendors will also center on the Java language, JDK, and Java Runtime Environment. Also, Java Community Process (JCP) will continue to be the primary standards body for Java specification work. Both vendors plan to enhance the JCP.
Intelenet Partners with Barclays
Blackstone owned Intelenet Global Services has entered into a strategic partnership with Barclays Bank, a major global financial services provider. As part of the partnership, Barclays has acquired a 12.75% stake in SKR BPO services, the holding company of Intelenet Global Services. Barclays Capital and Morgan Stanley were the bankers for this deal.
HID Global and Sony to Form Alliance
HID Global and Sony Corporation announced that they have entered into a Memorandum of Intent for a strategic partnership to jointly develop an embedded contactless smart card reader platform for the global PC marketplace. The jointly developed platform will be designed specifically for laptop manufacturers and will encompass Sony and HID Global contactless solutions and a broad range of other widely deployed technologies while supporting specific regional and application needs. The new embedded reader platform will support Sonys FeliCa contactless card technology, HID Globals iCLASS credentials, as well as other broadly adopted technologies. Furthermore, the reader solution will support applications based on Near Field Communication (NFC). Goals for the joint development, including a complete reference design and comprehensive developer support, are focused on minimizing product development requirements and speeding time-to-market schedules for PC manufacturers. Plans are in place to provide details and availability later this year.
Indian Company Receives Haworth Carbon Positive Certification
Pegasystems India, Indian headquarters and R&D center of Cambridge based Pegasystems (NASDAQ: PEGA), has taken another step forward in its intent to contribute positively to the society by launching its Environment Sustainability Campaign. Pegasystems India took the first step towards implementing their sustainability vision when they partnered with Haworththeir office furniture provider and eco-partner. Under this alliance, Haworth has awarded a Climate Positive Certificate to Pegasystems India, and with this Pega has become the first company from India to have this certification.
ThinkSoft Selects HP
HP announced that ThinkSoft Global Services has selected HP to build an Application Testing Center of Excellence (CoE) to help its customers reduce software development timelines and life cycle costs. Based in Chennai, ThinkSoft is a specialist provider of independent and outsourced software testing services to Banking, Financial services and Insurance (BFSI) organizations in the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific and India. To expand its customer base and increase its service capabilities, ThinkSoft will set up an Application Testing CoE to showcase its delivery models and improve effectiveness of its testing capabilities.
