Online train ticket booking begins on 11 May for select passenger trains to and from New Delhi from 12 May 2020 on the IRCTC website

Online train ticket booking for select passenger trains to and from New Delhi to help stranded citizens across the country to begin on the IRCTC website starting 11 May 2020 4 pm IST. Indian Railways plans to gradually restart passenger train operations from12 May, 2020, initially with 15 pairs of trains (30 return journeys), said Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways.

These trains will be run as special trains from New Delhi Station connecting Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi. Gradually, more trains will be allowed to ply as well.

Indian Railways has specifically mentioned that the tickets will only be available online on the IRCTC website (https://www.irctc.co.in/) and no counter tickets or platform tickets will be issued as ticket booking counters at the railway stations will remain closed. Only passengers with valid confirmed online tickets will be allowed to enter the railway stations, says a PIB release.

How to do Online Train Ticket Booking on the IRCTC website?

Those interested to book tickets online need to do the following:

  1. Visit the official IRCTC website and log in.
  2. Add the from and to the station (trains to only select stations will be available).
  3. Enter the date of travel, preferred class, and then find trains.
  4. Upon finding the suitable train, check its availability and then enter personal details such as name, mobile phone number, age, and so on to book the ticket.
  5. To confirm the booking, passengers will have to pay online through credit or debit cards.
  6. Once the ticket is booked, all details will be sent to passengers’ mobile phones, which will have to be shown while boarding the train.
