Amidst new updates and news of the ‘delete for everyone’ feature receiving tweaks, some WhatsApp users are reporting a peculiar problem worldwide. Users of the Facebook owned popular free messaging platform are reporting an issue wherein old WhatsApp chats (3 years or more) are apparently disappearing by themselves.
The news has been brought to notice by the WABetaInfo account on Twitter, which is one the most popular accounts users turn to for beforehand information on tweaks an updates. The account has tweeted a thread on XDA Developers forum where several users are speaking of this issue.
“I’m starting to realize that my old chats disappeared. It’s not archived. The oldest chat gone first and day by day they disappeared one by one chronologically,” posted a user who started the thread which elicited similar responses from several other who are facing the same problem.
“I got the same issue. WhatsApp old conversations are disappearing day by day. I checked it in storage management, total message count is decreasing day by day. For example total messages I sent to someone is 3000, after somedays it’s showing 2980. It’s happening again and again (sic),” says another user asking for help on the same.
While some WhatsApp users claim that backing up old chats on Google Drive and then restoring the same helped fix the problem, others say that applications like cleaner applications or anti-virus may be attempting to clean WhatsApp image and chat folders without users’ knowledge or permission.
There is no official confirmation or statement from WhatsApp on this issue as of now. If you too are facing a similar issue the do let us know in the comments thread below.
