While Twitter layoffs are still making headlines, Elon Musk has announced a permanent suspension of accounts that I’m personate others without clearly mentioning parody. This move was announced after popular comedian Kathy Griffin was permanently suspended from Twitter for impersonating Elon Musk. “Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended,” tweeted Elon Musk after getting Griffin’s account suspended.

“Previously, we issued a warning before suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark,” added Musk on the development while also stating that there would be “no exceptions” to this rule.

This move is being criticised by several users. “It’s not about Musk suspending Kathy Griffin from Twitter (or anyone else who impersonates him for that matter). It’s about making you just uncomfortable enough to avoid tweets critical of him or posting that next expose on him. That’s the goal and that’s fascism,” tweeted Lindsey Boylan.

With Twitter Layoffs Making Headlines, Some Employees Called Back

After Twitter layoffs made headlines across the world, some of the employees have reportedly been called back. Twitter has fired nearly 150 employees in India alone. “Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day. Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required,” said Elon Musk on the layoffs.

Some of the employees too to Twitter after they were let go to share their experience of working with Twitter so far. “Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company. I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and Ukraine, and to defend the needs of those particularly at risk of human rights abuse by virtue of their social media presence, such as journalists & human rights defenders,” tweeted one such employee Shannon Raj Singh.
