Now AI will help identify solutions to skin conditions

AI in health has been a major boost. Artificial intelligence has helped find answers to several problems. It has also helped in faster diagnosis. There are several areas which have untapped potential and with advanced technologies we are just beginning to understand them.

At Google I/O 2021, the company finally applied the advances in AI and a smartphone camera to be better informed about common skin conditions. Google realized that every year there are multiple billion searches on skin conditions and shortage of dermatologists. Therefore, people are resorting to Google Search.

The AI-powered dermatology assist, a web-based application launches as a pilot this year. With the tool, one can take three images from the phone camera of the concerned area of the skin. Post that, there’ll be questions on the skin type and duration of the condition to help zero down several possibilities. The AI model then processes the information and taps into its base of 288 conditions to give matching possible conditions for further research. For each condition then the dermatologist-reviewed info, answers and matching images from the web will be derived.

The tool uses machine learning research and deep learning approach to assessing skin diseases. The model also takes into account age, skin type, sex and race. Google has also developed and fine tuned the model with 65000 images and case data of diagnosed skin conditions, images of skin concern and healthy skin too.
