Nortel was shining in the wireless carrier equipment space, but it got tough

competition from Cisco in enterprise networking. D-Link too stormed the market

last fiscal, with Foundry. That Nortel still achieved a growth in this sector

was a tribute to its ramping up activities and efforts of 3D Networks, its most

trusted partner.

Switches proved to be the most lucrative equipment for Nortel, though here

too it took a hit. Call centers and BPO provided the resuscitating

elixir-deployments happened across Bharti AirTel, Taj Reservation Network,

American Express, iSeva, HTMT among others. Nortel was an also ran in routers;

other enterprise equipments pushed included converged voice and data networks,

IP telephony, multimedia contact centers, wireless LAN and Wireless Mesh

Networks. Nortel's commitment to India is illustrated not only by its strong

working relationships with the enterprise customers, but also in the $10 mn

investment it made in taking an equity stake in Sasken.
