Yotta Data Services has teamed up with NVIDIA to launch Shakti Cloud on NVIDIA’s DGX Cloud Lepton platform. This strategic move will provide the GPU power needed to build India’s own AI systems, starting with the training of a Sovereign Large Language Model (LLM) by AI startup Sarvam.

The collaboration includes Yotta, a leading Indian data centre and cloud service provider; NVIDIA, a global AI and GPU technology leader; and Sarvam, an AI company working on Indian-language-focused foundation models. The project supports the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission.

The infrastructure powering this initiative is hosted in Yotta’s Tier IV NM1 data centre in Mumbai and the D1 data centre in Greater Noida. Both centres ensure that AI development remains fully within Indian territory and jurisdiction.

This initiative is a major push toward achieving AI independence for India. With Shakti Cloud now available on NVIDIA’s DGX Cloud Lepton marketplace, Indian enterprises, startups, and research institutions gain access to powerful computing resources needed to build, train, and deploy AI models locally. Yotta is also contributing over half of the IndiaAI Mission’s GPU capacity, underlining its central role in driving AI innovation across the country.

Yotta’s Shakti Cloud is now integrated with NVIDIA’s DGX Cloud Lepton software, offering high-performance, real-time GPU management, health monitoring, and automation. It supports NVIDIA’s AI tools, including NeMo for model training, NIM for inference, and Cloud Functions for deployment. Users can access the platform on demand or reserve compute instances as needed.

Sarvam will be the first to use this platform to train its sovereign LLM focused on Indian languages and regional needs. These models are designed to support a wide range of applications, from public services to enterprise AI, developed entirely within the country.

The launch of Shakti Cloud marks a significant step toward building sovereign AI in India. It provides a secure, high-performance platform for developing AI tools tailored to local languages and contexts. This collaboration reinforces India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in advanced technologies and ensures critical AI infrastructure remains under national control.
