Visakhapatnam recently secured its second major data centre deal worth Rs 15,000 crore. Tiliman Global Holdings signed an agreement for a hyperscale data centre in Vizag, closely followed by an earlier commitment by Google to build its largest AI hub outside the United States with a USD 15 billion investment.
The dual agreement positions Vizxag as a critical node in India’s digital economy, built on strong coastal connectivity and supportive state government policy.
Tiliman’s Rs 15,000 crore data gateway
The Andhra Pradesh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New York-based Tillman Global Holdings to develop a 300-megawatt (MW) hyperscale data center campus in the city. The project represents a proposed investment of approximately Rs 15,000 crore.
Planned over roughly 40 acres, the facility, named TDGAP1, establishes a major regional hub for data storage and cloud infrastructure. Tillman Global Holdings brings investment, design, and equipment for the campus. State authorities will coordinate land allocation and inter-agency clearances to ensure a time-bound development. The project is projected to create over 1,000 jobs, split between 200–300 direct roles and 800–1,000 indirect positions across allied sectors like logistics and cloud services by 2028.
Billion-dollar AI ambition
The Tillman deal closely follows a much larger commitment from Google. The tech giant announced a USD 15 billion investment over five years (2026–2030) to establish its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub in India, selecting Vizag for the project.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated the facility would be the company's largest AI hub built anywhere in the world outside of the US. The multi-faceted investment features a gigawatt-scale data center campus capable of handling the massive compute demands of AI models. Google is partnering with AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel to roll out the infrastructure.
Crucially, the Google project includes the construction of a major new international subsea gateway in Vizag. This move brings multiple international fiber-optic cables to land on India’s eastern coast.
Building India’s digital core
Both the deals combined together not only positions Vizag as a tecgh service centre but as a crucial spot for India’s national data infrastructure. Data centres, whether hyperscale or gigawatt-scale AI centres, require two things: massive amounts of land and clean energy. Vizag offers both, alongside its unique geographical advantage.
Subsea cables land near the coast, providing high-speed, low-latency links to global markets. By anchoring a new subsea gateway, Vizag becomes a key exchange point for global digital traffic. This combination of a physical gateway and large-scale compute power addresses the growing national demand for cloud services and next-generation AI processing.
