Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has forged a significant long-term strategic partnership with Salling Group, Denmark's largest retail group. This collaboration aims to accelerate Salling Group's cloud adoption, enhance operational efficiency, and drive sustainability initiatives across its extensive network of 2,100 stores and 68,000 employees spanning Denmark, Poland, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia.
The partnership encompasses multiple well-known brands under the Salling Group umbrella, including grocery giants Føtex, Bilka, Netto, and RIMI Baltic, as well as toy retailer BR, and franchise quick-service restaurants like Carl’s Jr and Starbucks.
Driving agility and sustainability
Under the agreement, TCS will play a pivotal role in Salling Group’s cloud migration efforts, working to stabilise operations and foster greater agility and scalability. A key focus will be aligning these technological advancements with Salling Group's broader sustainability objectives.
Furthermore, TCS will contribute to the digital transformation of Salling Group's e-commerce platform, aiming to improve its responsiveness and capability to meet the rapidly evolving demands of consumers. This is crucial as retail increasingly shifts towards digital channels.
Alan Jensen, Chief Information Officer at Salling Group, emphasised the customer-centric nature of the partnership. "At Salling Group, everything we do is ultimately to help make our customers’ lives better. This project is no exception," he said. "Our partnership with TCS will help us better respond to their changing needs and do so responsibly and sustainably. This partnership supports our ‘Aspire 28’ strategy, which includes expansion through additional stores, as well as potential mergers and acquisitions in both existing and new markets.”
Leveraging AI for cloud operations
TCS will implement its AI-enabled cloud operations solution, Cloud Exponence. This solution utilises a "Machine First" approach to enhance collaboration between systems and personnel, delivering managed services across hybrid cloud environments. Cloud Exponence aims to automate operational tasks, integrate security and compliance measures, and significantly reduce the complexity of cloud management for Salling Group.
Vikram Sharma, Country Head, TCS Denmark, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "Salling Group is a long-established retail organisation with a significant presence in Denmark and other European markets. We are pleased to support their digital transformation by applying our international retail experience and technical capabilities to help them achieve their strategic objectives."
Abhijit Niyogi, Vice President and Business Unit Head for Retail, UK, EMEA, and India at TCS, added, “We look forward to working with Salling Group as they pursue their ‘Aspire 28’ vision and broader sustainability goals. Our role is to support the development of agile, scalable operations and more integrated customer experiences across channels.”
TCS brings extensive experience in the global retail sector, supporting clients with business transformation and omnichannel strategies. Its portfolio includes specialised solutions like TCS OmniStore, a composable commerce platform, and TCS Optumera, designed for data-driven merchandising and supply chain optimisation.
TCS has a long-standing presence in Denmark, operating for over 30 years and employing more than 20,000 people across the Nordic region, serving diverse sectors including banking, insurance, telecommunications, and technology.
