Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched Sovereign Secure Cloud for India. The cloud infrastructure is designed to be sovereign, secure, and sustainable. The platform is built, managed, and operated by TCS within the boundaries of India.
The platform is powered by the TCS Alpha stack. The organisation aims to keep all data within India, specifically in TCS data centres in Mumbai and Hyderabad, while complying with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
In an exclusive conversation with Dataquest, Satishchandra Doreswamy, Global Head of Cloud Infrastructure Unit, TCS, spoke about this new offering. Satish mentioned that Sovereign Secure Cloud is designed specifically for government and quasi-government bodies in India.
The key features include:
- Data Sovereignty: All data stays within Indian borders in an "iron-caged" environment with no internet exposure.
- Operational Sovereignty: Managed and operated entirely within India.
- Digital Sovereignty: Built in India by TCS using open source technologies.
A stride to make data available locally
Satish mentioned that this infrastructure is to create a secure and localised digital environment for the nation, while focusing on data localisation. He also recognises the challenge posed by hardware dependency on global players. He stated, "TCS has built this platform in India. Only hardware dependencies remain, which we’re actively working to indigenise. This offering is highly secure, localised, and cost-effective, aligned with national interests. "
" We're working closely with CDAC and Tejas Networks to indigenise hardware components. While our platform is developed in-house, we’re also integrating components from Indian tech players for software," he added.
