At the 11th FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Shiv Nadar was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for his enduring commitment to education, innovation, and nation-building. The honour was presented by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and was accepted on Nadar’s behalf by Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson of HCLTech.
For Nadar, this recognition is a reaffirmation of a lifelong belief—that true success lies not merely in creating global enterprises but in enabling others to rise through learning.
Building institutions of learning and equity
Through the Shiv Nadar Foundation, established in 1994, he has nurtured institutions that combine excellence with inclusivity—among them Shiv Nadar University and the VidyaGyan leadership academies for rural scholars. Over the past three decades, the Foundation has invested more than USD 1.5 billion, empowering over 39,000 students and alumni.
From a garage in Delhi to shaping India’s knowledge economy
In 1976, when India had fewer than 300 computers, Nadar and a small group of engineers launched HCL from a modest office in Delhi. Their bold vision—to make India a creator of technology, not merely a consumer—sparked a transformation that placed Indian IT on the global map. Today, HCLTech operates in over 60 countries with more than 220,000 professionals.
Recognised early by the Indian tech community
Long before this FICCI honour, Nadar’s pioneering spirit was recognised by the Indian IT fraternity. In 1995, he was named Dataquest IT Man of the Year, and in 2010, he received the Dataquest Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging his lasting impact on India’s technology landscape.
A lifelong pursuit of impact
As Roshni Nadar Malhotra continues to lead HCLTech into the future, the FICCI award stands as a reminder that Shiv Nadar’s legacy extends far beyond business—it is a story of vision, purpose, and the transformative power of knowledge.
