The PM Internship Scheme 2025, an initiative launched by the Government of India, is set to empower the country’s youth with valuable real-world work experience. The scheme is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements. As India is a nation with a demographic dividend, this scheme will help to empower youth with practical experience across various sectors through structured internship opportunities in top Indian companies.

The scheme was announced during the Union Budget 2024-25, and it was formally launched in October 2024 under the leadership of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and was supported by PM Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’. 

The goal is not only to offer job experience but also to build a foundation for a confident and competent workforce that can drive India’s economic growth. Round 2 of the pilot phase is currently live, offering more than 1.18 lakh internships across 730+ districts in India.

Who Can Apply?

The scheme specifically targets youth aged between 21 and 24 years who are not enrolled in full-time educational programs or holding full-time jobs. Applicants must belong to households with an annual income of less than INR 8 lakh. The intent is to support underrepresented and economically weaker sections of society.

Eligible criteria include:

•    Graduates from UGC/AICTE-recognized institutions
•    Diploma holders (Intermediate + diploma)
•    ITI certificate holders
•    10th and 12th pass candidates

Applicants must not have previously participated in any central or state-funded internship or apprenticeship program and should not have family members employed in regular government jobs.

Internship Duration and Benefits

Selected interns will engage in a 12-month program, including six months of hands-on training. The financial assistance includes a monthly stipend of INR 5,000, comprised of INR 500 from partner companies and INR 4,500 from the government via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). An additional one-time grant of INR 6,000 is also provided upon onboarding.

Insurance coverage under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana will also be provided to ensure peace of mind for candidates throughout the internship period.

How to Apply for the PM Internship Scheme 2025?

The application process is designed to be user-friendly and fully online. Here’s how candidates can apply:

  • Visit pminternship.mca.gov.in and click on 'Register'. Enter your mobile number and verify using OTP.
  • Log in to your account and update your password. Fill in personal, academic, and residential details.
  • Complete verification using Aadhaar or DigiLocker.
  • Upload necessary documents such as photo ID, mark sheets, and resume.
  • Browse and apply for up to five internships suited to your qualifications and preferences.
  • Partner companies will shortlist candidates and send internship offers. Selected candidates can confirm their acceptance through the portal.

Alternatively, the recently launched PMIS App, available on Google Play Store, enables users to register using Aadhaar-based face authentication, explore internships, apply seamlessly, and receive real-time updates.

The application deadline for Round 2 is 31st March 2025. Internships are available across 25 key sectors, including IT, banking, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, telecom, and agriculture. Top companies like Reliance, L&T, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra are actively participating in the scheme.
