Krutrim, Ola Group's artificial intelligence arm has announced its acquisition of BharatSah'AI'yak, an AI platform developed by the technology consultancy firm Samagra. While the financial details remain undisclosed, the acquisition includes the onboarding of Samagra's core AI team, a move aimed at enhancing Krutrim's reach in government and citizen services across India.
This acquisition seems like a strategic expansion for Krutrim, which became India's first AI unicorn in January 2024 after raising USD 75 million. Krutrim, founded in 2023 by Bhavish Aggarwal, has developed full-stack AI capabilities encompassing language, vision, and speech. Its offerings include proprietary Large Language Models (LLMs), cloud infrastructure, and the Kruti agentic AI assistant platform. Krutrim has also committed up to USD 1.2 billion for AI development and plans to expand its data center capacity to 1 gigawatt by 2028, alongside a partnership with Lenovo to build a large supercomputer in India.
On the other hand, BharatSah'AI'yak specialises in Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)-based AI bots, focusing on multilingual and voice-led experiences tailored for Indian users. Developed by Samagra, a governance consulting firm, BharatSah'AI'yak has a track record of deploying AI solutions in government initiatives, particularly in education, agriculture, and citizen services.
This AI-powered chatbot provided 24/7 assistance to pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. It offered guidance on rituals, navigation, accommodation, and local attractions in multiple languages. Krutrim had previously supplied hosted open-source LLM services for this chatbot, demonstrating an existing connection between the two entities.
The integration of BharatSah'AI'yak's capabilities with Krutrim's advanced LLMs, cloud infrastructure, and the Kruti agentic AI assistant aims to scale these solutions across the country. Krutrim plans to expand these AI-driven services into additional domains, including healthcare and general governance, making them accessible even to last-mile users.
The company believes that by incorporating BharatSah'AI'yak into their ecosystem expands their ability to provide AI-centric assistance to a range of government initiatives and schemes. This move helps strengthen the democratisation of AI, making it beneficial and rooted in the lived realities of India's diverse linguistic and cultural landscape. Additionally, the onboarding of Samagra's core AI team ensures continued development and domain expertise within Krutrim.
