The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has kicked off the preparatory phase of Special Campaign 5.0, running from September 16 to 30, 2025. The initiative seeks to institutionalize cleanliness, cut back on pending files, and create a smoother experience for citizens engaging with government offices.
Streamlining with Swachhata at the core
Special Campaign 2025 is part of a wider government effort to embed Swachhata (cleanliness) into the daily functioning of ministries and departments. For MeitY, this means tackling two fronts at once: ensuring tidy physical spaces and strengthening digital record management. Officials say this dual focus will not only free up space but also increase efficiency in handling citizen-facing services.
Inspections and digital shift
During the preparatory phase, MeitY carried out comprehensive inspections of its record rooms. Redundant documents were earmarked for disposal, while digital record systems were reviewed to tighten organization and close e-files that had been left pending.
Division-level nodal officers have been assigned to supervise this process. Their tasks include addressing backlogs such as references from Members of Parliament, the Prime Minister’s Office, Parliamentary Assurances, and citizen grievances. This move is expected to create a more responsive system while reducing bureaucratic clutter.
Tackling e-waste and workplace space
Alongside file management, the Building & Maintenance section has been tasked with identifying scrap and e-waste for disposal. The aim is to improve the utilization of existing infrastructure, especially in field offices where space management is often a challenge.
MeitY is also focusing on keeping its premises clean and work-friendly. Officials believe a well-maintained workplace helps boost employee morale and improves service delivery.
Commitment to efficiency and citizen service
Regular review meetings, led by Joint Secretaries and senior officials, have been central to monitoring the campaign’s progress. By keeping a close watch on each step, MeitY hopes to ensure that the campaign does not remain symbolic but translates into measurable outcomes.
In a statement, officials emphasized that the campaign reflects the government’s broader vision of a Swachh Bharat, one that is clean in both physical and digital spaces. With Special Campaign 5.0, MeitY is positioning itself as a key driver in that transformation.
