IIT Madras to train 30,000 teachers in career counselling

In a tremendous move to bolster career guidance at a local level, IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation in partnership with BodhBridge Education has launched a national initiative to train 30000 educators, teachers, and trainers to be certified in Career Counselling by offering the career counselling certification training free of charge.

The initiative will provide teachers—who are often the first responders for students looking for career clarity—the tools, structure, and knowledge to provide career guidance on a personal level. Currently, over 4200 teachers from 22 states and union territories have signed up and almost 1000 have received certificates so far.

Empowering Educators to Empower Students 

The training is fully online and free for school teachers, principals, college faculty, educators, and trainers. Participants will receive foundational knowledge in career counselling:

• Self-assessment frameworks

• Insights into the top 100 in-demand careers

• Expert-led modules by IITM Pravartak and BodhBridge professionals

According to Balamurali Shankar, Chief Knowledge Officer at IITM Pravartak, “Every child deserves guidance that helps them discover their strengths and chart a path towards a fulfilling career. Trained teachers can be the catalysts of that transformation.”

Why Teachers Matter

Teachers interact with students daily, placing them in a unique position to identify a child’s strengths and areas of interest early on. However, many educators lack formal training in career guidance—a gap this initiative hopes to close.

With structured support from IITM Pravartak, trained educators will be able to deliver one-on-one counselling sessions, support students in making smarter academic choices, and build a career roadmap tailored to each child’s potential.
