IIT Madras Launches Web-Enabled M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence for Working Professionals

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a new  Web-Enabled M.Tech (Web M.Tech) programme in Artificial Intelligence to address the rising need for  AI professionals. This programme has been specifically made for working professionals to ensure that they can improve their skills  in the workplace.  

The last date to apply for this program is May 31,  2025, and the classes are scheduled to begin from August/September, 2025. Syllabus for entrance exam, details of program structure and application details are available on  https://code.iitm.ac.in/webmtech for 11 Web M.Tech disciplines including the newly added Artificial Intelligence  specialization.  IIT Madras had offered Web M.Tech in Industrial AI, which was more application  oriented towards the industry.

As the demand for general and advanced AI education across industries was identified, the  institute has enriched its portfolio of offerings with more basic and sophisticated AI methods that can be used in different  areas. Practical labs and projects are stressed. 

Prof. B. Ravindran, Head, Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, IIT Madras, highlighted the flexibility of the Web M.Tech program, stating:

"Professionals can earn a Master’s degree from IIT Madras while attending live virtual evening/weekend classes. Recorded sessions ensure seamless integration of learning into their work schedules."

Prof. Sridharakumar Narasimhan, Program Coordinator, Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, IIT Madras, emphasized the market demand for AI professionals:

"This program meets the increasing demand for AI talent. Assessments include remote-proctored interim evaluations and center-based end-semester exams. Students can also undertake projects within their work domains, ensuring direct applicability to their careers."
