It is not a new app but a subscription option that sits between the free version and the more expensive ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro Plans. This plan is priced at Rs. 399 per month and is OpenAI’s first country-specific offering.

The launch of ChatGPT Go is a direct response to India’s status as a top market for ChatGPT. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has described India as the company’s second-largest user base after the United States, and the new plan aims to increase accessibility for millions of users who need more than the free version provides.

Features and benefits

ChatGPT Go provide an upgrade over the free ChatGPT tier. It offers extended access to the company’s latest AI model GPT-5, and provides higher usage limits for its most popular features.

The plans include:

  • Users can send more messages to GPT-5 compared to the free plan.
  • It provides more image creations for personal and professional use.
  • Users can upload and analyse more files, including documents and spreadsheets.
  • The plan gives ChatGPT a larger context window, allowing for better continuity in conversations.

The Go plan does not, however, include access to some features available on the more premium tiers, such as the Sora video generation model or full API access.

How to access ChatGPT Go?

In order to access the ChatGPT Go plan, users in India can follow the given steps:

  • Step 1: Log in to your existing ChatGPT account on the web or through the mobile app.
  • Step 2: Click on your profile icon in the corner of the screen.
  • Step 3: From the menu, select "Upgrade Plan."
  • Step 4: You will see the option to "Try Go" alongside the other plans. Select this option.
  • Step 5: Complete the payment. OpenAI has enabled local payment methods for this plan, including credit cards and UPI (Unified Payments Interface), making the subscription process more direct for Indian users.
