DST Offers WISE SCOPE Fellowship Program 2024

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) has initiated the WISE-SCOPE Fellowship program for women scientists and technologists. The WISE-SCOPE fellowship stands for Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) - Societal Challenges with Opportunities (SCOPE) Fellowship program. This program offers a unique platform for individuals who have completed their Ph.D. to contribute their knowledge towards addressing pressing societal challenges.


The WISE-SCOPE Fellowship aims to foster sustainable solutions that benefit communities across various domains including energy, water, health, agriculture, and more. The program not only empowers women in STEM but also catalyzes change at the intersection of science, technology, and societal well-being by providing financial support, mentorship, and a conducive environment for research.


The domains that are focused upon are:

  • Energy, Water and Waste Management (EWWM)
  • Engineering and Technology Development (ETD)
  • Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development (ECSD) 
  • Agriculture and Allied Sciences (AAS)
  • Health, Food and Nutrition (HFN)

What are the eligibility criteria to participate in the WISE SCOPE Fellowship program?

The eligibility criteria for the fellowship include:

  • Candidates should not be in regular employment. Temporary employment in research or academia is acceptable, but candidates must be willing to leave their current position if selected for the fellowship.
  • Applicants must be between 27 and 60 years old at the time of submission.
  • Women scientists holding a Ph.D. in Basic or Applied Sciences, or equivalent degrees such as MD/MS/MDS, are eligible to apply for the fellowship.

What is the selection process for the WISE SCOPE Fellowship program?

The selection process for the fellowship begins with a preliminary screening of eligibility criteria.  

  • The applicant's academic and professional credentials are thoroughly evaluated, including their research experience and expertise in the proposed area.
  • The proposed project's alignment with identified societal challenges is assessed, along with the potential impact of addressing these challenges.
  • A panel of subject matter experts evaluates the proposals and makes recommendations for final selection based on the aforementioned criteria.
  •  The final decision of selection is subject to administrative and financial approvals from the Department of Science & Technology (DST).


The WISE-SCOPE Fellowship program focuses on empowerment and innovation by providing a platform for women scientists and technologists to address societal challenges through science and technology.
