Cognizant announced two major additions to its global innovation network with the opening of its India Artificial Intelligence Lab and a new Cognizant Moment Studio in Bengaluru. The move strengthens the company’s broader AI builder strategy, which focuses on turning enterprise AI investments into practical business value.
The Bengaluru facility builds on Cognizant’s existing AI Lab in San Francisco, recognized for its patent activity and research output. The India expansion is part of the firm’s three-year USD 1 billion generative AI investment announced in 2023.
Focus on multi-agent systems and responsible AI
The India AI Lab will work on multi-agent systems, scalable decisioning models, and responsible AI frameworks. It will house PhD-level researchers and engineers who will explore new methods for enterprise-grade AI, including reusable components and proprietary software frameworks.
Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, said the company plays a key role as an “AI builder,” bringing together platforms, partners, and talent to connect infrastructure investments with real business gains. He added that pairing multi-agent architectures with human-centered design will be vital as enterprises enter the next phase of AI adoption.
Where design meets technology
Alongside the AI Lab, the Cognizant Moment Studio will help clients rethink digital experiences with the aid of AI. The studio blends engineering and creative work, aiming to produce interfaces and applications that feel more intuitive for enterprise users.
Benjamin Wiener, Global Head of Cognizant Moment, said the studio focuses on crafting experiences that feel meaningful and well-tuned to user needs through a mix of technology and human insight.
Strengthening research and partnerships
Babak Hodjat, Chief AI Officer at Cognizant, said Bengaluru’s engineering and scientific depth makes it an ideal location for building advanced AI systems that are interoperable, reliable, and scalable. He highlighted the team’s work on evolutionary AI and trustworthy decision models within the company’s Neuro AI platform suite.
Cognizant also plans to work with universities across India. The partnership model will support joint research, hands-on experimentation, and internship programs for students interested in applied AI development.
How will it assist India’s tech workforce
For India’s young tech community, the new hub signals stronger career pathways in AI research and enterprise-focused engineering. Bengaluru continues to attract global technology investments, and Cognizant’s move adds to the city’s momentum in advanced computing fields.
The new facilities are expected to help clients speed up AI adoption while building safer and more transparent systems, areas that enterprises across finance, retail, healthcare, and manufacturing are increasingly prioritizing.
