Capgemini India announced plans to recruit between 40,000 and 45,000 employees this year. The hiring drive, confirmed by Capgemini India CEO Ashwin Yardi in an interview with The Hindu Business Line, reflects a push to expand the company's workforce and meet growing client demands.

The recruitment strategy includes a mix of experienced professionals and fresh graduates. According to Yardi, about 35% to 40% of the new hires will be lateral hires, bringing in seasoned talent. The remaining positions will go to new graduates from over 50 colleges in India with which Capgemini has partnered. The company currently has around 175,000 employees in India.

A key focus for this hiring is building an "AI-ready" workforce. Capgemini will train new employees in artificial intelligence from the start, ensuring they are prepared for projects involving modern AI technologies. This approach comes as global clients increasingly look for advanced, tech-enabled services and seek to move more work to India for cost and operational reasons.

This hiring announcement stands out in a period of mixed employment trends across the IT sector. While some companies, like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), have recently announced plans for layoffs, others, such as Infosys, have also confirmed their intent to expand their workforces. For example, Infosys is planning to hire about 20,000 college graduates this year.

Capgemini's recruitment drive also follows its recent acquisition of business process outsourcing firm WNS for USD 3.3 billion. This acquisition is one of Capgemini’s largest in terms of headcount and is currently awaiting regulatory approval. The company expects the acquisition to strengthen its capabilities in advanced business services by combining WNS’s solutions with Capgemini’s existing consulting and analytics expertise.
