The Plan: Reliable and Fast Emergency Services

Piloted in Gurugram, the service has 5 ambulances with basic life saving tools. Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit says the service can dispatch ambulances in 10 minutes and improve response time in emergency situations. Each ambulance has a driver, an assistant and a trained paramedic to take care of the patient during the transport.

Dhindsa said this is not to make money but to address India’s ambulance shortage. The service will be available to a larger audience at a flat fee of ₹2,000. Over the next 2 years, Blinkit will roll out Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances in major cities as the service expands.

“Here profit is not the aim. We will provide this service to customers at a reasonable price and make long term investments to truly solve this problem. Since this is new to us and big, we are taking it slow. In the next 2 years we want to be in every major city. Let’s all do our bit and always give an ambulance space. The post said, “You never know when you might save a life.”

Blinkit: Economic Impact and Jobs

Beyond healthcare access, Blinkit’s entry into the ambulance service has job creation implications. The service will create jobs for paramedics, drivers and support staff to manage and operate the ambulance fleet. This fits into the broader economic agenda of job growth in the healthcare sector which has seen a huge demand for skilled professionals post pandemic. Also Blinkit’s service can reduce healthcare costs due to delayed treatments by providing timely medical help. Quick access to ambulances can lead to better health outcomes and reduce pressure on hospitals and emergency services.
