Amazon India has unveiled scholarships for 500 female students through the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship Program in anticipation of International Women’s Day. This scholarship offers valuable resources and avenues for pursuing careers in technology, emphasizing Amazon's dedication to nurturing diversity and inclusion within the tech sector and empowering future female leaders.
Expanding upon the program's achievements, chosen students will be granted INR 50,000 annually throughout their computer science or related studies. The initiative offers financial assistance, mentorship from Amazon staff, and tailored coding boot camps to aid scholars in navigating toward prosperous careers in the tech sector, fostering the development of future female leaders in technology. Additionally, this year, scholars will receive personal laptops to facilitate seamless involvement in boot camps, webinars, and other engagement activities.
“As we celebrate International Women's Day, we are proud to reaffirm Amazon's dedication to bridging the gap between talent and opportunity while promoting diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. Through Amazon Future Engineer Scholar Intern Program, we are investing in the next generation of female technology leaders to build a better world for all of us", said Akshay Kashyap, Lead, Amazon Future Engineer, Amazon India.
Since its inception in 2022, the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship program in India has made significant progress in empowering female students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue careers in technology. The initial group of scholars, consisting of 200 talented female students enrolled in first-year computer science engineering programs, represented a diverse range of first-generation learners, with many originating from families primarily involved in agriculture or manual labor occupations. Each scholar in the first cohort of 2021 and the subsequent cohort of 2022 received respective funding scholarships of INR 40,000 and INR 50,000, along with access to computer science boot camps, mentorship, participation in Amazon Women of the World (WoW) webinars, and a sought-after paid tech internship at Amazon.
In 2023, the program introduced a new internship component, granting 68 early and paid tech internships to the top-performing scholars of the initial cohort. This internship opportunity, exclusively available to scholars of the Amazon Future Engineer Program after their second academic year, sets a new standard by providing early internships, paving the way for potential return internships and even full-time employment opportunities at Amazon. The program's outreach and application process have been facilitated through strategic partnerships with the non-profit organization Foundation for Excellence (FFE), resulting in significant participation and interest from aspiring female applicants, with over 7500 applications received from across India.
