With the highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) season set to begin on March 22, Bharti Airtel has reinforced its network infrastructure at Wankhede Stadium to ensure seamless connectivity for fans. Anticipating a massive turnout of nearly 100,000 cricket enthusiasts, Airtel has enhanced seven of its existing cell sites around the stadium to improve voice and data connectivity.
The network upgrades have been meticulously planned to accommodate the expected surge in mobile usage, enabling spectators to stay connected and share their experiences in real-time. Commenting on the initiative, Aditya Kumar Kankaria, CEO-Mumbai, Bharti Airtel, said: "With the upcoming IPL tournament expected to attract massive crowds, we have proactively upgraded our mobile network infrastructure at Wankhede Stadium. This enhancement will ensure that our customers remain seamlessly connected, capturing and sharing the electrifying energy of the event in real-time."
Beyond Wankhede Stadium, Airtel has also optimized its network across Mumbai, covering key locations such as the airport, railway stations, Marine Drive, Nariman Point, Churchgate Station, Marine Lines Station, and Gateway of India. Additionally, premium hotels like The Oberoi, Trident, and Taj Colaba have undergone comprehensive network assessments to enhance coverage.
Recognizing the nationwide excitement for IPL, Airtel has expanded its network augmentation efforts across all stadiums hosting matches from March to May 2025. These measures aim to provide an uninterrupted mobile experience to millions of fans enjoying the cricketing extravaganza.
