Founder of Wipro Azim Premji announced today that his son Rishad Premji would never become Wipro's chief executive officer, but would represent promoter ownership on the company's board.
In a news channel interview from Davos, Switzerland, the Wipro chairman stated, ""He (Rishad) is not going to be the chief executive officer, that's not the career plan for him, but he would be representing ownership obviously," on the sidelines of World Economic Forum.
Rishad, the eldest of his two sons, joined Wipro in 2007 as Business Head for Special Projects in the banking and financial services vertical and rose to become Chief Strategy Officer three years later.
Azim Premji is 67 years old and there have been speculations about Rishad being appointed as the CEO of Wipro's now demerged non-IT entity, which includes lighting, furniture, consumer care products, and infrastructure engineering service.
Premji hinted that CEO TK Kurien stands a chance of becoming the managing director and Wipro's restructuring is going to create some changes.
