Mutual Trust Bank Limited, a private commercial bank in Bangladesh, and TransferTo, a cross-border mobile payments network for emerging markets, have joined forces to facilitate international money transfers to Bangladesh, allowing migrant diaspora to make a digital transfer to family and friends back home in Bangladesh from over 60 countries across TransferTo’s network.
With the assistance of International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, which facilitated the connections and discussions with the Central Bank of Bangladesh, this partnership with TransferTo brings in a new, first-of-its-kind money transfer concept to Bangladesh. This enables Mutual Trust Bank to have direct access to new markets and promotes greater financial inclusion for the Bangladeshi population.
In Bangladesh and other emerging economies, remittances are an important source of income, powering economic growth, and for Bangladesh, this represents an estimated 12% of the total GDP.1 Through TransferTo’s cross-border mobile payments network, the 22 mn Bangladeshi migrant workers living and working abroad2 will now be able to seamlessly transfer money, in real-time, and directly to their loved ones back home using three payout options: 1) bank accounts, 2) cash pickup points and 3) bKash mobile wallets.
