Elon Musk the owner of X platform (former Twitter) has recently made an announcement in which he unveiled the game-changing Audio and Video calls feature for X through a proclaimed tweet. What is more exclusive about this feature is that it does not follow the conventional method, as users will not require a phone number to access the feature.
As Musk made the announcement through his proclaimed tweet," Video and audio calls coming to X: Works on iOS, Android, Mac and PC, No phone number needed" He further added in his own words," X is the effective global address book".
Musk claims that the set of factors the platforms going to provide is unique and exclusive in itself. This audio and video calling functionality is set to be compatible with Android, iOS, PC, and Mac devices and it won't rely on traditional phone numbers to connect. The user will not require a phone number to access the new feature which is truly a unique and innovative addition to the platform.
The anticipation for this feature has been building for some time now as Twitter designer Andrea Conway had previously shared snippets of the new functionality including the User Interface (UI). The interface previously presented somewhat resembles that of other applications that offer in-app calling. Here, users will be presented with a choice to initiate an audio or video call from the Direct Message (DM) section itself.
It has to be noted that it still remains unclear whether this feature will be exclusively available to Blue subscribers or if it will be rolled out to all X users. As of now, no specific information has been provided in this regard.
Musk has confirmed that the announcement for the new feature is official, but he hasn't confirmed a launch date. This new audio-video calling functionality might be included on the X platforms with upcoming updates.
As the X platform continues to move forward in its innovative journey, the integration of audio and video calling without the need for a phone number may mark an exciting step forward.
