A new report from aitools.xyz offers a revealing look into how AI tools are actually being used—and it paints a sobering picture for Microsoft Copilot. While the tool has enjoyed significant buzz and enterprise integration, real-world user data from February 2025 shows that ChatGPT remains the clear frontrunner by a wide margin.
The report analyzed traffic data acrosso over 10,500 AI tools using third-party sources like SEMrush and Ahrefs, ChatGPT saw over 52 times more visits than Microsoft Copilot in February alone.
Microsoft Copilot has been making headlines with its rapid growth and deep integration into the Microsoft 365 suite.
The persistent dominance of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and the adoption gap that still challenges newer entrants.
According to their analysis of over 10,500 AI tools, ChatGPT saw more than 52 times the traffic of Microsoft Copilot in February 2025. ChatGPT clocked 173.3 million daily visits, dwarfing Copilot’s 98.9 million visits for the entire month. Despite Copilot’s eye-catching 6811% year-on-year growth in 2024, it remains far behind in the broader AI tools landscape.

• United States: 15.55% of users
• India: 9.81%
• Brazil: 4.39%
• United Kingdom: 4.25%
• Indonesia: 3.32%
Hype vs. Habits
The data, compiled from third-party traffic sources like SEMrush and Ahrefs, reflects actual usage patterns—not just marketing claims or investment figures.
What it suggests is that despite strong enterprise positioning and a growing suite of features, Copilot has yet to become a daily go-to AI assistant for the majority of users.
By contrast, ChatGPT continues to be the AI tool of choice, with its market share alone accounting for more than 43% of traffic across all AI tools analyzed.
What’s Next for Copilot?
Microsoft is betting big on AI as the future of work, and Copilot is central to that vision. But closing the adoption gap with ChatGPT will require more than integration—it will demand sustained user engagement, broader appeal beyond enterprise use cases, and more compelling consumer value.
As the AI landscape matures, the battle for user attention will be defined not just by features or partnerships, but by real, habitual usage. And for now, ChatGPT is still leagues ahead.
