In a recent update, Meta’s Threads introduced a new feature in which users will be allowed to delete their Threads profile without losing their Instagram account. This move has now positioned Threads as a strong contender against the X platform (former Twitter) owned by Elon Musk. It is also working on several other updates aiming at improving users' experience.
“We’re rolling out a way for you to delete your Threads profile separately from your Instagram account. And now, if you want to delete your Threads profile, all you need to do is visit Settings, then head to ‘Account’, go to ‘Delete or Deactivate Profile,’ and then finally select Delete.” Announced Mosseri via a post on Threads
A shared screenshot from Mosseri’s announcement emphasizes that the deletion of the profile is a permanent action. Once the user executes it, all profile data including replies, posts, and media files will be hidden and will be permanently deleted after a 30-day grace period. Meta also clarified that this deletion solely pertains to the Threads profile while ensuring users that their Instagram account will remain unaffected by the deletion.
This update has addressed a longstanding limitation as previously users used to face the dilemma of having to delete their entire Instagram account to remove their Threads profile. The independent profile deletion feature is likely to be well received by users seeking more control and flexibility over their online presence.
As Metal continues to refine Threads and add features such as post-editing, the platform is positioning itself as a serious competitor in the social media landscape. The move to enhance user autonomy over their profiles reflects Meta’s commitment to providing a more customizable and user-friendly experience across its platform.
