The Ministry of Electronics and  Information Technology (MeitY) has come up with a program to provide a professional learning experience to candidates under the guidance of experts. The Work-Based Learning Program (WBL) by MeitY is a technical skill-acquiring opportunity for specific candidates belonging to SC/ST/EWS/ Women categories. The candidates will be exposed to opportunities like acquiring technical skills as par emerging technologies, making themselves job-ready, gaining real-time work experience, acquiring problem-solving opportunities, and a lot more.

Work-based Learning program (WBL) is introduced with the objective to provide an opportunity for SC/ST/EWS/Women candidates to explore their potential. In view of these categories of candidates being socially or financially underprivileged in some cases, the ministry aims at providing them with mentorship under the best scientists and expert mentors at NIELIT Bhubaneswar. The program will not only facilitate them by teaching skills but will also be helpful in their transition from a student to a corporate professional.

What is the Work Based Learning (WBL) of MeitY?

WBL is a professional learning program in which candidates will be introduced to in-demand skills, get a chance to brush their skills, and most importantly candidates will get exposure for their professional development.

WBL provides learning programs under various technological areas as such

  • IT and Cyber security
  • Data Science
  • Internet of Things(IoT)
  • Drone Technology 
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Here, candidates will have to choose one of the technologies they want to build their expertise in. They will receive guidance under their allocated supervisor at NIELIT Bhubaneswar. Their certification will be completed in two level in which they will be evaluated by the Technical Monitoring and Evaluation Committee.

Who can apply for the Work Based program?

The applications for WBL are open to a specific group of candidates only. Under the program on SC/ST/EWS/ Women candidates can send applications. The other eligibility criteria include that the candidate must have passed out BE/BTech or equivalent MSc/ MCA in the last two years. Or, they should be pursuing BE/BTech in the 7th/8th semester along with a NOC from their respective college before the interview.

The admissions to the WBL program are made twice a year in July and January based on rank in tests or interviews conducted by NIELIT Bhubaneshwar. As the duration of the internship for level 1 is 6 months all candidates applying for this should be available for this particular duration. After this, about 50% of the candidates who have successfully completed level 1 will be provided with an opportunity to carry out level 2 WBL.
