The island nation of Singapore has fostered a meaningful community of DeepTech innovators, investors and partners. And SGInnovate is noteworthy for its contribution. The Executive Director for community and brand, SzeKi Sim rolled up her sleeves and built a community for Deeptech in Singapore.
SzeKi Sim was Employee No. 3, alone in the marketing team, with a deadline of two months to launch SGInnovate and get credibility quickly. And mind you: There was no logo, no website , no team. Cut to today, SGInnovate is a successful nexus of DeepTech ecosystem stakeholders and is synonymous with Singapore’s success in the category.
SzeKi pioneered the team that would go on to help entrepreneurial scientists build, commercialize and scale DeepTech startups in Singapore with a unique strategy of purposeful storytelling.
In this episode of DeepTech Studio, SzeKi Sim explains what it takes to first define the category DeepTech, drive conversations around it, pioneer a mammoth effort of building a nexus of DeepTech stakeholders. She also discusses the challenges she navigated and gives some important lessons on brand building.
