With mounting IT infrastructure, the activity of managing the IT environment,

irrespective of the size of the organization, is by no means an easy task. To

address this issue, Microsoft Corporation started the Dynamic Systems Initiative

(DSI) two years ago, with the primary motive of offering manageability to

customers. Windows and Enterprise Management Division corporate VP Kirill

Tatarinov outlines the functionalities of DSI in an interview with Sunitha Natti

of CyberMedia News.

What is DSI all about?

Microsoft's Dynamic Systems Initiatives will enhance the enterprise

customers' solid solutions and will simplify designing and deployment of

distributed systems. We attempt to provide secure and reliable management packs

across all our product range. Manageability is one of the unique features that

we offer to our customers. In the process, we deliver a coordinated set of

solutions to reduce the complexity of IT infrastructure.

With mounting IT infrastructure, the activity of managing IT environment is

by no means an easy task. At the same time, it is an integral part and hence

needs a focused approach. DSI helps to scale down cost of operations and reduce

complexity, making it easier to handle a distributed environment. Enterprises,

with increasing IT infrastructure, face considerable challenges, requiring a lot

of time and cross-team coordination.

Is DSI a domain of large enterprises alone?

Challenges like increasing complexity in IT infrastructure are not only

experienced by large enterprise customers; small and medium-sized organizations

also equally have similar concerns. To overcome them, organizations,

irrespective of their sizes, have to deploy a service discovery model with a

good knowledge base. Our DSI initiative enables organizations to build

easy-to-use, scalable, and model-based management tools to leverage knowledge

and provide real-time feedback on system performance, besides automating best

practices.

What's the Indian development center's contribution to the various

management packs?

Well, a management pack is not developed in an isolated environment. It is

simultaneously developed along with the product. As of now, the Data Protection

Server product is totally developed out of the Indian development center and the

management pack is also developed here. As and when a product gets developed

here, its associated pack would also be developed here.
