Larsen & Toubro’s Smart World & Communication business vertical is leading the way to make Jaipur India’s first Smart City by creating a host of smart solutions like Wi-Fi hotspots, citizen interactive information kiosks, surveillance cameras, environmental sensors, parking information systems and remote kiosks with facility management services at select locations in the city.
L&T has received the mandate from Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), which is leading the initiative to equip Jaipur with world-class digital facilities targeted primarily at the heavy tourist traffic that the city attracts. All kind of information about the city, its rich heritage and history, locations, directions, distances, etc. will all now be available at the click of a button to tourists and citizens.
“We are delighted to be involved in this farsighted programme to transform Jaipur into India’s first Smart City,” said Mr. S N Subrahmanyan, Deputy Managing Director and President, Larsen & Toubro, who also heads L&T Construction, the construction arm of L&T where the smart world business vertical resides. “The Government’s announcement of creating 100 Smart Cities in the country will go a long way in making India future-ready and it is wonderful that we have an opportunity to participate in making that objective a reality.”
The Jaipur project, which was described by Mr. Shikhar Agrawal, Commissioner, JDA, as “a very important initiative” and “the first major step towards realizing the dream of making Jaipur a smart city,” has been planned in two phases with Phase 1 aimed at transforming six major locations into smart zones in the next month a and half and the remaining locations to be completed in a total of 120 days along with an Operations & Maintenance contract for 5 years. In Phase 1, L&T is completing the work at six locations, including the famous Amer Fort.
The Smart World Business already has an impressive track record having executed City Surveillance & Intelligent Traffic Management Systems for the Government of Gujarat in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara and another unique project facilitating better surveillance and management of critical infrastructure at Sabarmati Jail, in Ahmedabad. Currently, the Business is executing India’s largest city surveillance project comprising 6000 cameras across 1500+ locations in Mumbai for the Government of Maharashtra.
