How has grid computing evolved and what are its benefits?

Over the years, grid infrastructure has evolved more toward a wider scope in

computing infrastructure. Now, with a grid infrastructure, organizations can get

a greater level of agility in executing business by making the infrastructure a

flexible and serviceable entity.

Why would virtualization be needed for data centers?

Large data centers are running out of power and space, and if we look at the

utilization of equipments most of them are under utilized and, at the same time,

organizations are continuously buying more. The solution to that is to

virtualize the environment, by which you can get higher utilization and reduce

power and space consumption.

What are some problems faced by organization while adopting server

virtualization?

There are three major problems in server virtualization. In many cases the

back up and recovery infrastructure breaks and stops working. The solution for

this is restructuring the back up and recovery environment. Another problem

faced by the organization while creating a large-scale server virtualization

environment is that the number of servers comes down but the amount of storage

needed goes up.

The third challenge is that it is very easy to provision and create virtual

servers but traditional SAN environment or traditional legacy storage

environment still takes very large amount of time and process to provision

storage. So the benefit of virtualization that a company is looking for is not

achieved. The server virtualization growth will happen only when these problems

are solved. NetApp has the technology solutions to overcome these three

problems, and because of this we have a significant market share, and is a very

hot market for us.

What are your strategies for the Indian market?

We have been very aggressive in the Indian market for the past few years.

Our market share and growth in the Indian market is strong. We are planning to

grow our customer base by participating with channel partners and our direct

distributors. We have a very strong engineering team in India; most work for our

global products is done from India. A product called Snapmanger for integrating

our product with Oracle was completely developed in India.
