Challenges for New HeadBy appointing an IT champion from Wipro, Sudip
Banerjee, as CEO, it was obvious that L&T Infotech was laying the ground for the
future. Its operation, especially the bulk accruing from the North American
market has been severely under pressure. The worst hit has been the financial
services practice. Therefore, there has been a perceptible slowdown in the pace
of recruitment, even as the company is in the process of capacity expansion.
More worryingly, the company has terminated more than 10% of its employees from
Mumbai, Chennai and Pune centers.
Even as revenues come under pressure, the management at L&T Infotech is
devising ways to chart out a course. So there is added focus on new practices
like IMS and ERPthe global services partnerships with SAP and Astea were part
of this deal. and then there is the big push for new markets, namely in
continental Europe and the Middle East though that too might not insulate it
much longer.
L&T has therefore upped the ante on the domestic front and is aiming for a
host of tenders in the defence, railways, and allied sectors.
