Mentor and philanthropist
KV Ramani is widely known for his role in encouraging software companies in
the area of communication technologies to develop focused business plans. In
1985 Ramani founded FutureSoft, the company that pioneered communications
software products and solutions; later he was one of the founders and
co-promoters of Hughes Software Systems in 1991 and also founded Digital
Holdings. On the mentor side, India would remember Ramani for being one of the
founders of Nasscom, being its chairman in 1997-98 and as chairman of TiE's
Chennai chapter from 2001-03. The philanthropist side is now emerging, as having
resigned from boards of both Future Soft and Hughes in 2006, he focuses on
managing Shirdi Sai Trust founded by him in 1996 as a social entrepreneur.
