S Suresh Kumar, minister for primary and secondary education, Labour and Sakala, Government of Karnataka had said that students will be informed about the new schedule of exams well in advance. Nevertheless, after the Government of India cancelled CBSE class 12 board exams on 1 June, several students have been requesting authorities to cancel other state board exams including Karnataka 2nd PUC exams as even they are just as vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This move by the central government is very good. My CBSE and ICSE friends are lucky. However, no instruction has been given to students studying under the State Government of Karnataka (2nd PUC exams),” says Amaresh Jalihal. “Dear Sir, CBSE class 12 board exams have been cancelled, but what about 2nd PUC exams of Karnataka? We have always been in a big dilemma and we still are. Please take some proper decision at the earliest as we students cannot handle this anymore,” says Alok Jha.

Over seven lakh students give the Karnataka 2nd PUC exams each year which is a deciding factor for students to seek admission into engineering, medical and other higher institutions. Due to this reason, some stakeholders are of the view that 2nd PUC exams cannot be done away with entirely. “Please conduct 2nd PUC exams soon. We are well prepared and ready to write. Please don't cancel it like the way CBSE did. We have been studying for a long time. Please make announcements soon so that we have a clear picture. Thank you,” says one such student.
