The highly anticipated Jio GigaFiber launch is expected to happen soon. However, the Reliance Jio owned service, which had consistently topped the Netflix Internet Service Providers Speed Index for several months, has now dropped to the third place in the month of June.

As per the Netflix ISP, 7 Star Digital has retained the first place with a speed of 3.54Mbps, and Spectranet has taken the second place with a speed of 3.50Mbps. Jio GihaFiber has settled at the third spot with a speed of 3.49Mbps, which is slightly lesser than the 3.53Mbps it had in the month of May 2019. Airtel follows on a close fourth position at a speed of 3.35Mbps.

Although The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on particular ISPs around the globe, and not a measure of overall performance for other services or data that may travel across the specific ISP network, this drop in ranking for the Jio GigaFiber could be due to its latest offering. The Jio GigaFiber connection can now be availed at a price of Rs 2500 but the speed obtained would be 50 to 60Mbps, which is lesser than the 100Mbps that was initially being offered.

Nevertheless, once the commercial launch takes place and the landline or voice calling services will be provided with Jio GigaFiber, and the IPTV services would be delivered online through the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) box router, which can connect with almost 40 devices such as mobile phones, laptops, TVs and many other smart devices. These features are bound to attract consumers regardless of the slight drop in speed.

“There is no such thing called Jio DTH, it is IPTV and it could be available in August,” an industry source who did not want to be named told DataQuest recently.  While the unlimited voice calling services will be provided soon, the complete services that include smart home solutions like voice control, smart temperature control and others may take a year a half to come into the market.
