The Jio GigaFiber launch, an event that several customers across the country are waiting for, is most likely bound to happen at the Reliance Jio Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on 12 August 2019, as per multiple sources. The same was reported by DataQuest last month after receiving an update from an industry insider.

What Customers can Expect from the Jio GigaFiber Launch?

While the Jio GigaFiber launch took place two years ago, the commercial launch of the same would mean the added features that were promised along with the Jio GigaFiber will be provided to customers. As per an industry source, who spoke to DataQuest last month, customers will be able to enjoy the IPTV services or Jio DTH as it is popularly being called from next month onwards. Customers will soon be able to connect their television sets to the router box provided during installation of the services and enjoy watching all their favourite channels most likely at no extra cost. Also, no extra antennas or satellite dish installation would be required to avail this service.

Furthermore, the landline connection or unlimited voice calling services may also be provided from August 2019 onwards.

Nevertheless, the complete services such as IoT connectivity with homes, voice control, and other smart home features will take a longer time into the market.

“There is no such thing called Jio DTH, it is IPTV and it could be available in August,” he had told DataQuest at the time.

Jio GigaFiber is also being offered at a lower price range than what it was launched. The Jio GigaFiber installation can now be availed at a price of Rs 2500, and the speed obtained would be 50 to 60Mbps. The speed drop is also evident by the Netflix ISP index data issued last month. Jio GigaFiber, which had consistently been topping the Netflix ISP index since September 2018 has now dropped to the third place.

Jio GigaFiber has settled at the third spot after 7 Star Digital and Spectranet in the month of June with a speed of 3.49Mbps, which is slightly lesser than the 3.53Mbps it had in the month of May 2019.

However, regardless of the slight drop in speed, the craze around the Jio GigaFiber services still continues amongst consumers for the promise of several offerings at really affordable prices. As Reliance Jio has done in the past, Jio GigaFiber services may continue to be free for a long time as well.
