Jio Cloud PC: What Is It, and What Could the Price Be?

Reliance Industries announced the Jio Cloud PC at its 45th annual general meeting, and the company is pairing it up with JioAirFiber

The Jio Cloud PC, announced by Reliance Industries, has been grabbing eyeballs ever since the concept was unveiled earlier this week. The company said at its 45th annual general meeting that customers can do away with the expenses incurred by buying a PC or a laptop, and spend even more money to upgrade it every few years , and opt to use a virtual PC hosted in the cloud instead. 

What is the Jio Cloud PC?

Jio Cloud PC is basically a virtual PC that runs in a virtualised environment on the Cloud, and is capable of hosting multiple operating systems. Some of the benefits of using a virtual PC is that it allows the testing of new applications in a secure environment. Furthermore, virtual PCs also offer increased security. Since its is hosted on the cloud, multiple systems can be set up across the targeted space without having to spend too much on hardware.

JioAirFiber with Jio Cloud PC

Reliance Industries also announced the JioAirFiber. “Since you get fiber-like speeds over the air without any wires, we are calling it JioAirFiber. With JioAirFiber, it will be really easy to quickly connect your home or office to Gigabit-speed Internet. We have developed a JioAirFiber Home Gateway, which is a wireless, simple, single-device solution. Get it, plug it in, turn it on, and that's it. You now have a personal Wi-Fi hotspot in your home, connected to ultra-high-speed internet using True 5G. On top of that, because it's an end-to-end wireless solution, there are no wires coming into your house, creating an eyesore ,” said Akash Ambani at the 45th AGM.

The company promised that customers won’t have to pay large upfront investments, or pay for  upgrades. “You only pay to the extent you use the Cloud PC, resulting in a super-affordable way to bring the power of a PC, even multiple PCs, to every Indian home and business,” said Kiran Thomas, president, Reliance Industries at the AGM. He went on to add that while a large number of computers are being used at Reliance, they were now being replaced with Jio Cloud PCs. He thus made the point that even large enterprises could use this solution.

“This will be a game-changer for every student, every gig-worker, every small business in our country. Be it a pharmacy or a doctor's clinic, a grocer or a hotel, a consultant or a Chartered Accountant, everyone can get an affordable computer through Jio Cloud PC and JioAirFiber.,” added Kiran Thomas.
