It SMF India just round the corner

The Indian chapter of the IT Ser-vice Management Forum (itSMF), a global
organisation that promotes best practices in this area, will be launched within
the coming quarter. "We are in the process of filing for the Articles and
Memorandum of Association. We hope to get all the clearances from the government
by April 2005," India Chapter Convenor Bithin Talukdar informed.

To be based out of Bangalore, the chapter would look to enhance awareness of
technology, best practices and standards in the nascent Indian services market.
It would act as an umbrella organisation to support collaboration among user
groups and practitioners. "The forum would greatly benefit the industry.
For those industries, which intend to adopt service management, the forum will
provide all the necessary information, guidance and awareness for
implementation," says Talukdar.

The Membership
Categories
Individual
Membership:
for individuals such as independent
consultants or those who are part of an organisation that is not
ready or does not wish to embrace the philosophy of the company.

Corporate Membership:
for those organisations
operating as an IT function providing service to that organisation
alone.

Vendor Membership:
for organisations engaged in the sale
of service management products and services, including facilities.

Associate Membership:
for complementary organisations
designed to encourage the exchange of information between
like-minded organisations and to aid the pursuit of common
objectives.

The India Chapter will have a Chairman and will be headed by a Board of
Directors. The membership would be open throughout the year and there is no time
barrier for enrolling. The Council of Members is constituted from the
volunteering members and the size would be decided based on the membership
response.
