The Indian IT industry has grown the way it did because no one knew how it worked, says Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. "As soon as people discovered the value of Indian IT, we started having 2G scams," he pointed out.
While speaking at the TiEcon Delhi 2012, Kapur explained how entrepreneurship thrives amid chaos. "Chaos gives you the ability to dream and when dreams come into conflict with structure, there is a challenge. So entrepreneurship becomes all about fighting your way through the structure," he said.
Kapur, who is also a member of the National Innovation Council, also pointed out that India's colonial mindset and education system are not oriented towards entrepreneurship.
The panel, which included Arun Maira, member, Planning Commission and Dr Saurabh Srivastava, President, Nasscom, also discussed the key recommendations of the National Entrepreneurship Policy. The policy aims to address the gaps in the existing policy framework and help create a more conducive environment to nurture entrepreneurship in the country.
The annual flagship conference of the Delhi-NCR chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs, a global body of successful entrepreneurs that fosters entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, and education, is being attended by more than 1,000 entrepreneurs and 60 speakers. The theme of this year's conference is 'Entrepreneurship - Thriving in Chaos'.
