Where does Tivoli stand in enterprise management systems?
In the enterprise management systems category, IDC has named IBM the market
share leader worldwide with 15.4% share (August 2005) and for the fifth
consecutive year, Gartner has ranked IBM as the worldwide market share leader in
IT operations management, with 24.2% market share, nearly double that of CA at
13.3%. IT analysts cite Tivoli as the number one vendor in other categories
including software for managing networks (Gartner, June 2006), IP fault and
event management, server provisioning (IDC, June 2005), output (IDC, August
2005), hierarchical storage (Gartner Dataquest, April 2005), user provisioning,
archiving, performance, availability, configuration, databases, job scheduling (Gartner,
July 2005) and event automation.
How does Tivoli fare in comparison to similar software from
other vendors?
We do not like to compare ourselves with other vendor's offerings. What I
can share with you is about our strategy. It's been over 10 years since IBM
acquired Tivoli and over time, it has grown its portfolio of management
applications through strategic acquisitions around network, asset, mainframe and
service management. By complementing other software divisions that cover the
entire gamut of IT life cycle and other IT activities, it is increasingly
becoming the preferred choice.
In India, how does Tivoli fare against the other APAC markets?
With rapid growth, Indian organizations are increasingly facing the uphill
task of efficiently managing large and complex IT networks and therefore a
growing number is adopting mature enterprise management offerings from prominent
players in the industry. Verticals like telecom, BFSI followed by IT/BPO are
driving growth in the adoption of this software. As we see an enormous potential
in India, we will continue to invest to build capabilities for the fast-growing
domestic market opportunities and to enhance IBM's offerings.
