The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is presenting its 133rd Outreach program on “Geodata Processing using Python” which is scheduled from 15th to 19th January 2024. IIRS has developed diverse training and education programs designed to meet the specific requirements of different target groups, including academia, government departments, research institutes, geospatial industries, NGOs, and more.

This is also a comprehensive training initiative by ISRO’s educational unit IIRS and is designed to train a diverse spectrum of participants including students, faculty, researchers, and technical professionals with skills in geoprocessing and visualization on web platforms.

Who should participate in this IIRS Outreach program?

The program is designed for students in their final year of undergraduate or postgraduate studies, as well as for technical and scientific staff from government institutions and researchers.

As the course is supported by ISRO it focuses on leveraging the abundance of freely available satellite imagery and geospatial data to address challenges in environmental management, disaster response, climate change, natural resource management, and more.

The curriculum of the course covers a range of topics including

  • GIS overview
  • Python Programming
  • Raster and vector data processing
  • Use of open-source geospatial data processing libraries.

How will be the program conducted?

The program will be conducted through online platforms requiring participants to have basic hardware and internet connectivity. Most importantly, there is no course fee for this program, candidates will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to have the skills to write programs in Python for reading, writing, and processing raster and vector geospatial data. Additionally, they should also be able to visualize geospatial data and derive insights for informed decision-making.

IIRS continues to play a crucial role in fostering expertise in remote sensing and geospatial technologies. And, the Geodata Processing using Python course reflects the institute’s commitment to advance knowledge and skills in a rapidly evolving field contributing to the effective utilization of geospatial information for the benefit of society.
