ISRO YUVIKA 2022 may be organised depending on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in various states across India

ISRO YUVIKA 2022 may be held almost after two years if the COVID-19 situation in the country continues to be favourable. The Indian Space Research Organisation has issued an official statement saying the YUva VIgyani KAryakram 2022 (YUVIKA 2022) is being planned. The last time this program was organised was is in 2019. After that, ISRO could not hold the program for two years due to the pandemic.

“ISRO is preparing to organise YUVIKA 2022. Considering the prevailing pandemic situation and due to uncertainty of school schedules at different states, the dates of the programme is not yet announced to enable the registration. The official announcement will be published only in the ISRO website after finalising the program,” reads the official statement from the organisation. YUVIKA 2020 was cancelled after 368 school students were shortlisted for the program due to the lockdown that was initiated in the country.

What is ISRO YUVIKA?

The Program aims at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to young school goers with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities. Three students studying in the 9th Standard from each Union Territory and State will be selected. 

Important Details of ISRO YUVIKA

  • The Young Scientist Programme will be conducted for a duration of two weeks across four centres of ISRO during the second half of May, which is usually a holiday season for kids.
  • The schedule will include invited talks, experience sharing by the eminent scientists, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.
  • The selection of the students would be based on their performance in the 8th Standard, which includes both academic and extracurricular activities.
  • The provisionally selected candidates will be requested to send the attested copies of the relevant certificates through e-mail. The final selection list will be announced after verifying the certificates provided by the students.
  • The selected candidates’ expenditure, which includes II AC fare by train for student and guardian or parent from the nearest railway station to the reporting centre and back, course material, lodging and boarding, will be borne by ISRO.
  • Selected students will be accommodated in ISRO guest houses and hostels.

The ISRO YUVIKA Program is conducted at the following ISRO centres:

  • Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.
  • U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru.
  • Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad.
  • North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Shillong.
