ISRO YUVIKA 2020 for School Students Announced, Online Registrations to Begin Soon

ISRO YUVIKA 2020, an initiative which was started by the Indian Space Research Organisation last year, will be conducted this year as well and online registrations for the same will begin soon. The second session of the Young Scientist Programme 2020 or the YUva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA 2020) will be held in the month of May 2020, which is usually a holiday season for school students.

ISRO YUVIKA 2020 will be of two weeks duration and the schedule will include invited talks, experience sharing by the eminent scientists, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.

The Program has been designed to impart basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of Space activities. “The program is thus aimed at creating awareness amongst the youngsters who are the future building blocks of our Nation,” says ISRO. ISRO has chalked out this programme to “Catch them young”.

Who Can Apply for ISRO YUVIKA 2020 for School Students?

School students who have finished 8th standard and currently studying in 9th standard (in the academic year 2019-2020) will be eligible for the programme. 3 students each from each State or Union Territory will be selected to participate in the ISRO YUVIKA 2020 programme covering CBSE, ICSE and State syllabus. Students who are studying in India including OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) are eligible for the programme and 5 additional seats are reserved for them.

Students will be selected based on their performance in the 8th standard, which gets 60 percent weightage, Winners of  District/State/National/International Level sports activities conducted by School or Education board from the year 2016 onwards will get 10 percent weightage, Scouts and Guides/NCC/NSS Member - during the current academic year (2019-20) will get 5 percent weightage and students from rural schools will get 15 percent weightage.

How to Apply for ISRO YUVIKA 2020 for School Students?

Students can apply for the ISRO YUVIKA 2020 programme from 3 to 24 February 2020 on the official ISRO website. The exact link will be available on 3 February, 2020. The list of the provisionally selected candidates from each state will be announced on 2 March 2020.

The provisionally selected candidates will be requested to upload the attested copies of the relevant certificates on or before 23 March 2020. After verifying the relevant certificates the final selection list will be published on 30 March 2020.
