“Thank you very much Sir for your kind words and encouragement. We are honoured and grateful for your constant support for the YUVIKA 2020. In order to have greater participation, we would like to extend the date for registration by 10 days,” said ISRO on Twitter in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appreciation for the programme.

PM Modi lauded the ISRO YUVIKA 2020 in the latest Mann Ki Baath edition. “These days, there is an increased interest in science and technology among youth. Launch of a record number of satellites in space, new missions fill every Indian with pride. During the launch of Chandrayaan 2 in Bengaluru, I witnessed tremendous enthusiasm among children present there. I can never forget their inquisitiveness towards science, technology and innovation,” said Narendra Modi.

He also spoke about the launch view gallery that was launched in Sriharikota last year, wherein users can book their slot online to view rocket launches live from Satish Dhawan Space Centre. He also urged principals and teachers of schools to use this facility.

About the ISRO YUVIKA 2020 initiative, PM Modi said: “YUVIKA is a laudable initiative by ISRO to associate the youth with science. In 2019, it was launched for the school children. YUVIKA is an acronym for YUva VIgyani KAryakram or Young Scientist Programme. This programme is in line with our vision of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan.”

He urged students to read about the experience of last year’s participants, and then register themselves for the programme on the official ISRO YUVIKA website. While the earlier deadline for ISRO YUVIKA 2020 registration was 24 February 2020, it has now been extended by 10 days.

The last date for online registration and submission of signed application is now 5 March 2020.
