Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the authorized space agency of the Government of India that is responsible for the nation’s space exploration and satellite programs. It has issued a notification inviting students from across the country to register under the Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START) program. ISRO START is one of the landmark initiatives of ISRO that intends to promote participation from young innovation-driven students and generate human resources in the field of space science and technology.

The START is designed for different levels of students; it is an introductory-level awareness program that will be conducted online in terms of reaching a wide audience. The program is specially targeted to the students of science and technology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The audience participating in the program should have some basic understanding of science and technology.

Who can apply for the ISRO START?

As the program's target audience includes students of different levels, the institution has segregated them into different categories and set eligibility criteria accordingly.

  • Category 1:- Includes students from approved ISRO START host institutes or nodal centers.

Students under category one include postgraduate students and final-year undergraduate students of physical science and technology currently studying in ISRO START host institutes or nodal centers.

  • Category 2:- Includes individuals of any background

This category of the start program included those individual students who were not eligible or could not join through category-1 but are interested in participating. This group of students can directly register and attend the sessions through the YouTube Channel IIRS.

  • Category 3:-Includes public knowledge gain.

This category covers the general public, who will watch the sessions to gain knowledge about space science and technology.

The registration process commenced on 20 June 2023, and interested participants can register for it before the deadline of 15 July 2023. In case of any problem faced during the registration process, participants can contact the web support portal of ISRO, as the program is being offered for free by ISRO without any registration or admission fees. It will facilitate a maximum number of enthusiasts and encourage learning.
