ISRO Offers Free Online Certificate Course on Remote Sensing and Numerical Modelling: All You Need to Know

ISRO, through its center Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), is now accepting registrations for a free online course titled “Understanding of coastal ocean processes using remote sensing and numerical modelling”. The course aims to educate researchers on how satellite remote sensing is proving to be helpful in observing the coastal ocean processes and understanding its dynamics. Upon successfully completing the four-day course, participants will also receive a certificate.

There are a limited number of seats for the course; therefore, candidates will be allowed to register on a first-come-first-serve basis. The online course will be relayed through the e-class platform of IIRS ISRO using internet connectivity. The programme is sponsored by the National Natural Resources Management System – Standing Committee on Training and Education (SC-T), Indian Space Research Organisation, Department of Space, Government of India.

  • Understanding of coastal ocean processes through geoinformatics.
  • An introduction to numerical ocean modeling.
  • Application of numerical modelling to study the ocean circulation and marine biogeochemistry.
  • Modelling of ocean productivity through remote sensing data.
  • Role of ocean for tropical cyclone tracking using NWP model.

Who Can Take the ISRO Free Online Course?

The course could be most beneficial for the professionals, researchers and students interested in learning the utility of satellite observations and numerical modeling in coastal ocean processes studies. The target participants are final year undergraduate or postgraduate students, technical, scientific staff of central or state government, faculty, researchers at university or institutions.

The course will be conducted from 21 to 25 September 2020, and interested candidates can register for it on the official IIRS website. All participants have to register online through the registration page by selecting their organization as the nodal center.
