ISRO has invited applications from interested participants for a Massive Open Online Course on Geospatial Applications for Disaster Management being organized by United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Vienna and Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP). The ISRO free online certificate course is flexible and available to everyone who wants to enhance their capabilities related to the use of geospatial and Earth observation technologies in disaster risk management.

The official website says that the proposed online course aims at strengthening efforts of disaster management professionals to contribute to achieving the targets of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.

What the ISRO Online Course on Geospatial Applications for Disaster Management will Cover

While the course can be taken by all interested participants, it has been designed especially for government officials and professionals, educators, university students and other stakeholders working in the field of disaster management. The course will be conducted in two tracks. Participants who successfully complete Track 1 can undertake Track 2. Furthermore, those who wish to take Track 1 and leave can do so a certificate for completing the basic module will be given.

Those who complete Track 1 can also take Track 2 upon completing which candidates will receive a certificate for the entire massive open online course. Track 1 will cover the overview of disaster risk management (DRM) and the relevance of geospatial technologies, and earth observation and disaster management.

Track 2 will cover Earth observation and geospatial intelligence for disaster management, EO system and Hydrometeorological disasters, EO system and geological disasters, and EO system and environmental disasters. Both Tracks are of 12 hours each and can be taken any time during the duration the course remains open.

How to Apply for the ISRO Free Online Certificate Course

Interested participants will have to register through the e-class portal of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) by providing their name, selecting the course, entering personal and professional or educational details, and then applying for the course.
