ISRO is offering a one-day free online course called Satellite Altimetry for Inland Waterbodies for students and professionals
ISRO has invited applications from interested students, researchers and professionals for a one day free online course called Satellite Altimetry for Inland Waterbodies. The intent of the course is to familiarise participants with satellite altimetry and its applications for monitoring of lake, reservoir volume and water level, stage-discharge of rivers and hydrological modelling. An overview of advanced remote sensing techniques of altimetry and geospatial technology use for quantitative assessment and monitoring of inland water bodies will also be given.
The course is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), a unit of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), which is a premier institute for capacity building and research in the field of remote sensing and geoinformatics. The course is open to professionals from the Central, State Government, Private Organizations or NGOs engaged in hydrometeorological based regional and national projects, as well as students and researchers aligned to research in satellite altimetry.
What the ISRO Free Online Course on Satellite Altimetry Will Cover?
The course will cover the following topics related to satellite altimetry:
- Introduction of altimetry, its principles and future missions.
- Re-tracking algorithms for Inland water level estimation.
- Progress in river flow estimation using altimetry data.
- Integrated approach of altimetry and hydrometric data based reservoir sedimentation.
- Use of satellite altimetry data to calibrate and validate hydrodynamic models.
